FGI’s Sami Altaher to Speak at the ABA Business Law Section Annual Conference in Washington, DC
Washington, DC – September 12, 2019 – Sami Altaher, the Executive Director of FGI, is scheduled to speak at the ABA Business Law Section Annual Conference tomorrow in Washington, DC at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Sami Altaher will be speaking on a panel to discuss Cross-Border Asset-Based Lending: Perspectives on Practice and Legal Issues in the UK, Canada, and the US. Chairing the panel will be Scott Lessne of Crowell Moring. Featured alongside Sami Altaher will be Andrew Knight of Crowell Moring and Jason Arbuck of Cassels Brock.
Topics to be discussed during the Perspectives on Practice and Legal Issues in the UK, Canada, and the US panel include: The challenges of bankruptcy in the UK and Canada in concerns to working with administrators and Canadian civil court judges. Negotiations with foreign creditors and the challenges faced between granting a security interest in the US and granting a pledge in Europe. Priming liens and taxes in the US in comparison to the UK and Canada. The cost of litigation and documentation globally due to fewer attorneys having a broad understanding of ABL and courts being congested globally. Lending against foreign currencies and documentation as well as lending against in-transit inventory and documentation. The panelists are very knowledgeable in the field and are expected to provide clarity on the complex issues that asset-based lenders face today.
